Boxing Fans Still Love The Sport

As a boxing fan, I've had to deal with a whole bunch of crap from people about the sport I love. To all those people who love boxing out there, you know the old saying. "Boxing is dead." I don't believe it is, but I understand why everyone and their uncle thinks so. The opinion of a multitude of people out there is that there currently is and was a whole lot of corruption in boxing. Regular sports fans have problems with the judges calling fights. They have problems with the boxing referees. They don't like the promoters either. Boxing promotion has always had somewhat of a black eye in people's minds. I don't blame them. Some fights seem downright fixed. While there is no proof per say, all you have to do is look at the Paulie Malignaggi versus Juan Diaz fight to see how frustrating being a boxing fan can be.

Certain fighter's promoters get to pick the judges. Is that fair? I don't think so. That's what is wrong with boxing. The other argument on what destroyed the sport seems to be that there are way too many belts now. I think that is true. You don't have a good grasp on who the best fighter is. There is too many divisions. You have the champ of this division and that division. Who's really the best? We don't know, because in today's age all that matters is money.

How many times do you hear the fighters who are supposedly the greatest say that they won't take a fight because the other fighter isn't a big draw. This is what is wrong with boxing. We want good fights, not boring ones. Not ones where we know the outcome and expect someone else to win. No matter what the hype is, the results are usually expected.

Every now and then a mega fight will occur, but the main news channels just gloss over it in their sports section.  Nobody wants to cover it anymore.  With the rise of MMA, boxing fans have had to put up with loads of crap still and I'll also say that MMA treats their fans better than boxing fans get treated in the fights department.  Usually, boxing fans are a diehard tight knit bunch.  There is a whole community of boxing fans at youtube discussing the latest boxing news and fights.

Best Boxers Right Now

Floyd Mayweather Jr.

He's good, but he needs to fight some competition. Ricky Hatton and Marquez are not competitive fights for Floyd. I don't care how much hype they get from either sides fans. He needs to fight a Miguel Cotto or Shane Mosely to prove he is actually the greatest. As much as I want to see the fight, him beating Pacquiao won't prove much other than he's still good.

Manny Pacquiao

He's the new Golden Boy. Pacman is on a hot streak and hopefully will continue. He's getting the sport of boxing a bunch of good press. This is the shot in the arm that boxing needs in the news. Boxing needs a fighter that nobody can ignore and I think Manny is it. He's come up from flyweight to welterweight and taking on the big names. How can you top that?

Miguel Cotto

Cotto is one tough guy.  He's also an extremely hard puncher.  Just look at what he did to Paulie Malignaggi's face in their fight.  While it can't be proven, many believe that he was taking bricks to the face in his fight against Antonio Margarito.  Margarito was found with plaster in his hand wraps right before his fight with Shane Mosely.

Sugar Shane Mosely

He's one tough fighter and very quick.  He is aging though and he needs some big fights that nobody seems to want to give him.  He convincingly took out Margarito and wants to fight Mayweather and Pacquiao.
